Twin Cities Ballet Company Visits Chelsea Heights Elementary
Kindergarten through third-grade students at Chelsea Heights Elementary got a visit from some special guests last month when members of the Twin Cities Ballet Company stopped by for an exclusive performance.
The students got to watch as the dancers performed an abbreviated version of their recently debuted rock ballet, "Romeo and Juliet," set to the iconic music of Queen. The performance included lively dance, acrobatics, and storytelling accompanied by recognizable tunes such as "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "Under Pressure," "Don't Stop Me Now," and more.
You could hear audible gasps from the young audience as the dancers performed pirouettes and lifts from their one-of-a-kind rendition of the classic Shakespeare story. After the performance, the dancers then turned the spotlight back on the kids, leading them through playful dance moves to get them up on their feet and moving their bodies.
At the end of the visit, the company, comprised of both local and international talent, answered student questions such as, what got them into dancing and how early some of them began their training.
The event, coordinated by members of the Chelsea Heights PTO, was an excellent opportunity for students to get front-row access to some of the amazing performance art available right here in the Twin Cities, while also learning about what it takes to be a professional dancer.
The Lakeville-based dance company also stated they are looking forward to a continued partnership with Chelsea Heights and the chance to share their love of dance with future generations of young people. The Twin Cities Ballet Company recently wrapped their world debut of Romeo and Juliet - A Rock Musical, set to the iconic music of Queen at the Fitzgerald Theater in March. The company is currently preparing for their next performance of Beauty and the Beast, which will take place at Ames Theater in Burnsville May 9-10.
