Counselor

"Hello! My name is Jacob Blum, and I have been the school counselor at Chelsea Heights Elementary since 2019. An Iowa native, I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Child, Adult, & Family Services at Iowa State University and earned my Graduate Degree in Counseling & Student Personnel Psychology from the University of Minnesota. I consider myself very lucky to work at Chelsea Heights and am proud of the community we have in our building. I am dedicated to making sure our school is a welcoming, productive, and safe place for all of our students, staff, and families to grow and learn.
The SPPS counseling curriculum is designed to provide classroom lessons to every student in support of their academic success, social emotional development, and college & career readiness. Supplemental services are provided through small group and one-on-one counseling services based on need and referrals from students, teachers, and parents/guardians.
Counselors also work closely with our building principal, social workers, and other support staff to make sure all of our students and families have the resources they need. This includes mental health support as well as housing, food, transportation, and other community-based services. Please reach out to a member of our team if you need assistance in these areas.
