| Welcome to Room 101 and 3rd grade! I am really excited to be making the switch from teaching 5th grade to 3rd grade. After 8 years with 5th graders, I have high expectations for my third grade students. I've spent a large part of the summer looking at what is taught and explored in 3rd grade and I am anxious to assist everyone in Room 101 in making the transition from being a "primary" student to an "intermediate" student.
We will spend a large part of every day reading. Instead of learning to read, we will be reading to learn. We will become better and stronger readers. We will read during shared reading from our basal reader, our Social Studies text and our leveled library. In Math we will work daily from our Everyday Math journal, do Calendar Math together, and write about Math during D.O.T. (daily outragous thinking). We will also spend time every Friday playing E.M. games on the computers. Although writing is integrated throughout the third grade curriculum, we will also spend time with a few Language Arts textbooks, "The Write Source" and "Language For Daily Use".
Although I'm not often here at Chelsea after school, I am here early and always available by school email. My email is michele.palewicz@spps.org. It is essential that educating your child is viewed as a partnership, with communication as the link. I will send home weekly newsletters, make frequent phone calls home, and strive to keep you informed of your child's accomplishments and/or special concerns. I'm looking forward to a very successful year for all in Room 101.
