Welcome to General Music at Chelsea Heights Elementary School.
We continue playing recorders in Third and Fourth Grade, they are playing very well! It is fun to hear the "squeaks" of the first effort turn into real pitches. The children continue to be very excited about playing recorders also. Practicing is a great way to become a proficient musician, set aside a special place to practice in at home. Thanks for your help and support!
A Little more about recorders! We are using a new method that gives the recorder players a colored string for every level they pass. Most of our students have three strings, and some have four! They are practicing and learning a lot! Good job!
First and Second grade students spend a lot of time in music class moving and dancing to the music. We spend more of our time learning many new songs from different places and about many different topics. Have your child sing a song or two to you, or perhaps even show you a dance.
Now that Fifth and Sixth grade students have performed, we will begin some study of music with instrument and ensemble playing, beginning improvisation and continuing to work on singing musically. There is some great talent in our students!
The National Music Standards are very important when I plan our lessons. Here are some of the Content Standards that we are currently working with: Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music; Reading and notating music; Evaluating music and music performances. Music class is a busy place with much to learn and experience. My main goal is to expose students to many different kinds of music and help them learn the tools to use music in their lives after they leave our school. Music is with us our entire life.
