Mr. Bob Martinson
Welcome to our world of learning in Room 201.  This year we are so excited to be a part of both third and fourth grade learners.  We not only have the opportunity to learn the skills in our own grade level, but also from each other.  Our room consists of 7 third graders and 8 fourth graders, so we really get to know each other well.

This year we are doing some of our learning together and of course some of our activities are geared for each specific grade.  During reading we will work in Reader's Workshop as a whole class and also do grade level work in the specific reading book for each respective grade.

Writer's Workshop is structured as an ungraded academic activity.  This means that we will conduct our writing lessons as one whole group.  Writer's Workshop consists of giving the students ample time to enter into their notebooks many different kind of entries allowing them freedom to discover the many different types of writing.  We them look at specific units of study throughout the year.

In Math we use the district adopted curriculum called "Everyday Math."  During this time the students in this class will work on the graded curriculum for their grade.  Math is so sequential that it is important for each student to work at the level of their grade.

Spelling in Room 201 is an entirely individual program.  This allows all students to study and learn words that will challenge them to meet their individual needs.  Along with learning to spell the words, they will also work on sentence structure, penmanship, dictionary skills, and other specific activities that will enhance their ability to not only spell the word, but also to look at a word with the hope of learning spelling patterns, rules, and the exceptions to those rules.

In Social Studies the students in third grade will work from the text entitled "Communities" and the students in fourth grade will focus on the different geographical regions of the United States.

At 12:15 each day we will go to either Science, Music/Library, or Physical Education where we will have a specialist teacher.

Third and fourth grade are exciting times in the lives of boys and girls.  We will travel through this year with anticipation, curiosity, and success.
