Third Grade Art Gallery

Ms. Madzo's students began the year by painting their faces in oil pastles. The students looked at pictures of their faces as they drew their face. They learned how to draw a face, making sure the eyes are in the middle of the face

with the ears next to the eyes.

Ms. Palewicz's Students have been working on water colors.  They also have been learning how to see by following along as I draw.  They are becoming incredible artists.



Image Gallery: Portraits
The students in Ms. Madzo's class learned to draw their faces from a picture of themselves. They learned that all faces have similarities. The space between their eyes is the same size as one of their eyes. Their nose is shaped like a triangle. Their eyes are by their ears in the middle of their face.

Image Gallery: Portraits of Ms. Palewicz Stuents
Ms. Palewicz students learned about faces, They learned to put the eyes in the middle of their face next to their ears. Their nose goes down to the bottom of their ears and the mouth is lined up with the eyes. They also learned to color with oil pastels, blending more than one color.

Image Gallery: Winter scene with shadows
Ms Palewicz's students followed along as I taught them how to show the shadows in a country scene. They learned the moon shines and where there is something blocking the light it makes a shadow.

Image Gallery: Sratch Art
Ms. Palewicz's studebts learned how to make a scratch art board by coloring with oil pastels and then painting over it with black tempera paint. When the paint dried they were able to scratch their favorite animal.

Image Gallery: Pointsettia
Ms. Palewicz's students read the book The Legend of the Pointsettia by Tommy DePaulma. They learned about the pointsettia and then created a painting of their own. They followed along as I drew the flower. Then learned how to paint with water colors.They began with pale colors to medium, to dark. The results were incredible.

Image Gallery: Monet Impressionists
Ms. Madzo's third graders learned how to be Monet Impressionists. We began by reading the book, "The Magical Garden of Monet". Then they looked at prints depicted in the book. The students selected a Monet print to paint themselves. The students learned to paint like Monet.

Image Gallery: 3-D Artwork
Ms. Livingston's students learned how to make 3-D pictures. They began the project by painting the background with water colors. They learned how to paint a horizon line. Then they began the process of designing their picture. They were challenged by the idea of what parts should be raised and what should just be glued on top.

Image Gallery: Illustration inspired from the book"Snowman"
Ms. Madzo's students were inspired by the illustrations the saw in the book " Snowman". They used colored paper to draw the illustration and oil pastels to color the drawing.

Image Gallery: Animal Pictures in Oil Pastel
Oil pastel pictures on black paper by Mrs Madzo's class. The students looked at a picture of an animal of their choice. They were to duplicate the picture using techniques they learned, marking their paper and using their pencil as measuring tool.

Image Gallery: Asian Watercolor in Black and white
Ms. Madzo's students learned the art of drawing with paint. They learned to draw bamboo, butterfly,and mountains. They also learned to draw with pale colors first. This way thay can paint over if they need to. The next step is to layer medium tone colors followed be highlights of dark. This third grade class has learned this difficult concept very well.

Mountain scenes and murals from Ms. Young's class. Each student create an original piece of art. They then joined a group to draw a mural. The following are the individual paintings.

Image Gallery: Oil Pastel, Animal Pictures
Ms. Olsen's students learned to draw an animal of their choice. They were given a picture to duplicate. This was a challenge but they learned how to mark their paper to give them guidelines. They also learned to use their pencil as a measuring tool. The results are incredible for third graders.

Ms. Palewicz third graders learned how to draw with paint. They used tempera to paint learning how to mix all of their colors. They learned to paint with light color then medium and finish with dark colors. The dark colors in the front give perspective to the picture.
