| First Grade Art Gallery |  | The first graders in this lesson learned how to draw a tree. I drew a
tree and they followed along. They thought it would be hard but they
tried. Look at the outcome! These are incredible
drawings.
The students colored the pictures with oil pastel and
used a water color wash over the entire surface. This technique it
called Wax Resist, paint will not stick to the wax surface.

Ms. Stoltz's Class (click here) Ms. Stolz's first graders learn how to draw a tree. They followed along as I drew a tree on the overhead. The students learned how branches start thicker at the trunk and become narrower at the outer edge. They colored the picture with oil pastels then painted over it with water colors. This process is called Wax Resist.

The Snow Queen Ms. Shaw's first graders read The Snow Queen and were inspired by the illustrations. The drew the queen on colored paper using oil pastels. The learned how to layer colors, mixing more than one color together.
