Dear Parents and Guardians,

The field trip to the Minnesota Children’s Museum was the highlight of our week! Special thanks to Jared’s dad, and Elizabeth’s mom and dad for chaperoning so that we could have a 1:5 ratio as the museum requires. I was proud of the student’s good behavior. They represent Chelsea Heights School well. The purpose of the field trip was to learn about how a community works. This week we read books about community helpers and books about career ideas. We did matching games about signs and symbols, and people and places. We looked at photos from landmarks in St. Paul. Anything you can do at home to expand on this learning is wonderful. A huge THANK YOU to Elizabeth’s dad for making a dvd of our trip to the Children’s Museum. We LOVED reliving the field trip by watching ourselves on the dvd of photos with cool music ! WOW! Remember you can get FREE passes to the Children’s Museum at the public library. I know your child would LOVE to go again!

Junior Achievement began today. Mrs. O’Connell from the MN Dept. of Energy Security came to our classroom to begin a 4 week series teaching about Our Community. We started today by discussing how today’s second graders will be making important decisions about our world someday.

Science Fair projects are due Monday May 5 or Tuesday May 6. Students will sign in and take their project to Mr. Altman. On Thursday 20-30 judges will come in the morning. All students who turn in a project ON TIME will be invited to an ice cream party. Awards will be announced Thursday night during Student Showcase. Science Fair/Student Showcase is next week Thursday, May 8 ! There will also be books for sale at the Book Fair, prize drawings, and free ice cream from Schwans. Plan on a family night at Chelsea, Thursday May 8 from 6:30 - 8pm.

FYI - The Scholastic book order in the Friday Folder today is the last order of the year. Wednesday, May 12 our class will walk across Hamline Avenue to the Bookmobile. If your child has a public library card they are invited to bring the card to school that day. If your child does not have a library card we will get an application for them. Frequent trips to the public library should be a part of every student’s life; Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.

See you next Thursday!

Mrs. Bode
